Pope John Paul II Visit to Latvia Commemorative Medal, 1993 (Banka Baltija)

A commemorative medal issued in 1993 to mark the historic visit of Pope John Paul II to the Aglona Basilica in Latvia. Commissioned by "Banka Baltija" and minted at the Royal Dutch Mint (Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt).

Obverse: Profile of Pope John Paul II wearing a mitre, inscribed "PAPA JOANNES PAULUS II".

Reverse: Image of the Aglona Basilica, inscribed "Banka Baltija", "BASILICA AGLONENSIS", and the year "1993".

Material: Bronze (Tombac) with a protective finish.

Diameter: 38 mm.

Weight: Approx. 22–23 g.

A significant piece for collectors of papal memorabilia or Baltic history.
