Vintage Bulgarian Mid-Century Modern Ceramic Set: Vase & Ashtray, Kaspichan, 1970s
Up for auction is a stylish 2-piece vintage ceramic set consisting of a tabletop vase and a matching triangular ashtray. The set was manufactured in Bulgaria (PRB) at the historic "ZSK Kaspichan" (Georgi Dimitrov Factory) during the 1970s–1980s.
A wonderful example of Eastern European Mid-Century Modern design. The vase features a striking modernist silhouette with a ribbed neck and wavy rim, paired with a classic 1970s triangular-shaped ashtray. Decorated with a beautiful speckled ("quail egg") glaze featuring terracotta-brown splatters over a creamy beige background.
Fully authenticated. The bottom of the ashtray features the impressed factory hallmarks ("Kaspichan", "Dimitrov", "ZSK" with seagull silhouettes) and a red 1st-quality QC stamp. The vase bears the original factory ink stamp.
Excellent vintage/collectible condition. No chips, cracks, or restorations. The glaze remains glossy and bright. The ashtray shows no signs of usage (no nicotine stains). Minimal shelf wear on the unglazed base rings, consistent with age.
A fantastic addition to any retro or modernist interior, and a great find for collectors of vintage European pottery.
Dimensions: Height of vase: 19 cm / Width of ashtray: 13 cm.
