The coin was minted in Rome (the mint mark "R" is visible on the reverse) during the reign of Pope John Paul II (AN. IX — the ninth year of his pontificate).

·        Theme: Commemorative issue "Mother of the Redeemer" (Redemptoris Mater).

·        Specifications:

o   Material: Bimetallic (bronzital center, stainless steel outer ring).

o   Diameter: 25.8 mm.

o   Weight: 6.8 g.

o   Mintage: Only 80,000 pieces.

·        Design:

o   Obverse: Profile of Pope John Paul II (designed by artist A. Canevari).
