Description (English)

A "municipal trade token" that had a limited circulation period as local currency in the town of Gander.

Location: Province of Newfoundland, Canada.

Series: IX (ninth) from an annual series issued from 1982 to 2014.

Theme: World War II.

Reverse (Aircraft side): Depicts the British multi-role aircraft, the "Mosquito".Inscriptions: AVIATION DOLLAR, SERIES IX, MOSQUITO, WORLD WAR II.

The token was accepted for payment until August 31, 1990 (Value $1.00 Expires August 31, 1990).

Obverse (Bird side): Depicts a flying goose—the symbol of the town of Gander, often called the "Crossroads of the World" due to its aviation significance.

Made of nickel-plated steel, diameter approximately 33 mm.

The token is in very good collectible condition:

·        Original mint luster is preserved.

·        The relief is sharp, without serious nicks or wear.

·        No traces of corrosion, which is common for nickel-plated steel.
